Sweet Strudel

Ingredients

  • 200 g Flour
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 50 g butter
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 60 g sugar
  • 2 yolks
  • 300 ml whipping cream
  • 2 whites (whipped to stiff peaks)
  • 1 roll of bread (crumbled into small pieces)
  • 100 g liquid butter
  • 50 g almonds (grated)

Instructions

    Sift the flour into a bowl. Mix the remaining ingredients well with a whisk. Pour over the flour and quickly knead into a smooth dough. Let rest for about 20 minutes in a warm place, then knead again and let rest another 20 minutes.

    For the filling beat butter, vanilla sugar, sugar and the yolks until frothy for about 10 minutes. Fold in the remaining ingredients.

    Lay a large clean kitchen towel flat on the work surface and dust with flour. Roll out the dough as thinly as possible with a rolling pin, then stretch it paper-thin over both well-floured palms.

    Brush the dough with liquid butter and sprinkle with grated almonds. Spread the filling over two-thirds of the dough; leave one-third free. Fold the side edges over the filling, lift the towel, and roll the strudel toward the free third. Place the strudel seam-side down in a greased baking pan (possibly U-shaped). Brush with liquid butter and bake at 180°C for about 40 minutes, brushing with butter every 10 minutes during baking.
