Ingredients

  • 225 g flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 50 g butter
  • 50 g sugar
  • 150 ml milk
  • flour (for working)

Instructions

    In a bowl combine flour with baking powder. Cut the butter into cubes and rub it into the flour-baking powder mixture to form crumbs. Mix in the sugar and create a well in the center. Pour in the milk and stir until combined. On a floured surface, knead by hand into a smooth dough, adding more flour or milk as needed so the dough no longer sticks to your hands.

    Preheat the oven to 200 °C fan. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Roll out the dough to about 2 cm thickness and cut small buns with a round cutter (≈6 cm diameter). Place them on the tray with space between, bake for 10–12 minutes until risen and golden brown.

    Remove from oven when the pastry is puffed and golden. Let cool on a wire rack.

    Serve as desired, traditionally with jam and clotted cream.
