Red wine shallots with prunes: This low‑calorie side dish is rich in potassium. Delicate, mild onions with a fruity‑sweet note.
Ingredients
- 300 g longish shallots
- 20 g butter (1 tbsp)
- 150 ml dry red wine
- 3 tbsp ruby port wine
- 0.5 tsp ground cloves
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon (or 1 stick of cinnamon)
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt
- Pepper
- 4 dried prunes
Instructions

Peel the shallots, leaving the root end intact. Cut the shallots lengthwise in half.

Heat the butter in a pot. Sauté the shallots until translucent.

Add the red wine and port wine, bring to a boil.

Add cloves, cinnamon, and bay leaf to the pot.

Season the shallots with salt and pepper; simmer covered over low heat for about 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, dice the dried prunes.

After 30 minutes, stir the prune cubes into the shallots. The red wine shallots taste best hot or at room temperature.
