Ingredients

  • 250 g corn grits
  • 1 l water
  • 1 TL salt
  • 2 onions
  • 2 EL olive oil
  • 2 Bell peppers
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 200 g sheep cheese
  • 2 EL Butter
  • 8 sage leaves
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. 1.

Bring water with salt to a boil the day before, sprinkle in corn while stirring and cover over low heat for 5 minutes; turn off the stove and let stand for 1 hour. Line a royal cake pan with foil, pour in the hot corn porridge and allow it to cool.

  2. 2.

On the next day, press the firm porridge into a sheet and cut into 16 slices. Peel onions and slice thinly; sauté in olive oil until translucent. Halve bell peppers, remove seeds, wash and cut into thin strips; add to onions and simmer covered for 15 minutes.

  3. 3.

Slice cheese into 8 pieces. Heat butter in a pan and briefly brown corn slices on each side. Place half of the slices on a greased baking sheet, top with a slice of cheese, then add bell pepper and onion rings, cover with another corn slice, and secure with a toothpick and a sage leaf. Bake at 200°C for about 10 minutes until golden.
