Indian Onion Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 2 green chilies
  • 0.5 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 3 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (coarsely crushed in a mortar)
  • 7 tbsp chickpea flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 500 ml sunflower oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

    Peel onions and cut into very thin rings. Wash chilies, slice lengthwise, deseed, remove white membrane, and finely dice. Mix both with chili powder, coriander, lemon juice, and cumin.

    Add chickpea flour and salt to the onion mixture and combine well. Add water and mix thoroughly.

    Heat oil in a pot. It is hot enough when bubbles start rising on the handle of a wooden spoon held in the fat. Using a teaspoon, scoop small balls from the mixture and fry them portion-wise in the hot oil until golden yellow. Drain on kitchen paper and keep warm in an oven at 70 °C. Serve immediately.
