Fruit Salad with Sweet Croutons

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 apple
  • 1 Papaya
  • 2 figs
  • 2 slices of cake (e.g., sponge cake)
  • butter (for browning)
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

    For the fruit salad, peel the skin off each orange and cut out the segments without skin (filets), then place them in a bowl.

    Quarter the apple, remove the core, trim the edges if needed, slice thinly, and add to the orange filets.

    Halve the papaya, scoop out the seeds with a spoon, peel it, dice into cubes, and add to the other fruits.

    Cut the figs in half and slice into strips. Gently mix all fruits, divide among four glasses, and refrigerate.

    For the croutons, melt butter in a pan. Cut cake slices into small cubes and toss them in the butter until lightly browned. Sprinkle sugar over them while still warm and let caramelize. Serve the fruit salad topped with the sweet croutons just before eating.
