Ingredients

  • 300 g flour
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 egg
  • 200 g cold butter
  • flour (for working)
  • 200 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Orange juice

Instructions

  1. 1.

Sift the flour together with the sugar, vanilla sugar and orange zest on a work surface, make a well in the middle, pour in the egg and distribute the butter in small pieces around it.

  2. 2.

Break everything into crumbs using a pastry cutter. Quickly knead the crumbs by hand into a smooth dough and wrap it in cling film; refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

  3. 3.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan‑forced. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  4. 4.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 3–4 mm. Cut out shapes such as chicks, sheep and rabbits. Place all cookies on the tray and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes until light yellow. While still hot, transfer the cookies onto a cooling rack with a palette and let them cool.

  5. 5.

For decoration whisk powdered sugar with orange juice into a thick icing. Decorate the cookies as desired (optionally using a squeeze bottle) and allow to dry.
