Ingredients
- 375 g flour
- 150 g sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 lemon (unprocessed)
- 250 g butter
- 1 egg
- 200 g powdered sugar
- Food coloring (as desired)
- colorful sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
-
1.
For the dough, mix flour with sugar, vanilla sugar, salt and the zest of half a lemon. Add the butter in pieces and beat with a dough whisk. Fold in the egg and knead quickly into a smooth dough. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
-
2.
Preheat the oven to 170°C (convection). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
3.
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 3 mm thickness and cut cookies in various shapes (stars, bells, moons). Then poke a hole in each cookie with a skewer for later hanging. Bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes until golden brown and cool on a wire rack.
-
4.
For the garnish, squeeze the lemon and sift powdered sugar into a bowl. Whisk together a thick glaze from the juice and powdered sugar. Divide the glaze as desired and tint lightly with food coloring to match the colorful sugar.
-
5.
Now glaze the cookies, leaving the hanging hole open. Sprinkle colorful sugar over the still-wet glaze or press the cookie edges into the sugar. Let dry on a wire rack.
