1.
Coarsely chop the chocolate and place it in a metal bowl suitable for a double boiler. Fill a pot about 5 cm high with water, gently heat the water. Place the chocolate bowl in the hot water so that no water can enter the bowl. Melt the chocolate over the double boiler with frequent stirring, then set aside briefly. In a bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer. Add the eggs and then the melted chocolate, mixing well. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Mix the flour with baking powder, a pinch of salt, and vanilla. Stir the nuts into the batter with the flour mixture. Grease the pan. Pour the batter into a 20 cm square pan, bake for about 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean. Transfer to a rack and let cool completely. Cut into pieces about 5 cm wide for serving.

For the orange sauce, peel the oranges, removing all white pith, and cut them into segments. Slice the segments with a sharp knife from the skin. Simmer the sugar over low heat until it liquefies. Immediately add the orange juice and water, bring to a boil briefly. Add the orange segments and Cointreau, gently simmer until half the liquid has reduced. Serve the brownies with orange sauce and garnish with orange zest.
