Ingredients
- 1 kg sweet cherries
- 6 day‑old bread rolls
- 0.5 l lukewarm milk
- 4 eggs
- 125 g sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 2 tsp grated lemon zest
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp butter
- powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions

Wash, trim and pit the cherries. Slice the bread into rounds.

Whisk the milk with the eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon zest and cinnamon. Line the bottom of a greased baking dish with a layer of bread slices, top with cherries. Repeat layers until all bread and cherries are used. Pour the egg mixture over everything and let it set for about 15 minutes.

Top the cherry mix with butter chunks and bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C (lower rack) for about 45–50 minutes until golden brown. Remove, dust with powdered sugar and serve.
