Apple juice from Spoonsparrow: delicious fruit juice made simply at home!

Ingredients

  • 2 kg apples
  • 1 splash lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)

Instructions

    Wash the apples, quarter them, remove the core, cut into large pieces and place in a large pot.

  2. 2.

    Cover apple pieces with 1 l water and simmer over medium heat for 20–25 minutes until soft.

    Meanwhile, sterilize bottles and caps by boiling them in a large pot of hot water for about 10 minutes. Remove and set upside down on clean kitchen towels to cool.

    Hang the strainer over a second pot and line it with muslin cloth. Pour the apple mash into the pot through the strainer. Squeeze or press the muslin cloth well to avoid losing liquid.

    Taste the juice and adjust with lemon juice and/or honey if desired. Reheat on low heat and simmer for 20 minutes, skimming foam and stirring regularly.

  6. 6.

    Heat the juice again in the pot until it reaches about 90 °C, pour into prepared bottles, seal them, and briefly invert to check that the closure is airtight.
