Ingredients
- 400 g flour
- 200 g butter
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 2 packets vanilla sugar
- 1 small egg
- flour (for work surface)
- 100 g powdered sugar
- red food coloring
- 30 silver sugar pearls
Instructions
-
1.
Sift the flour, mix with the sugar and vanilla sugar, add the butter in pieces. Add the egg and quickly knead everything into a shortcrust dough by hand. Roll the dough on a lightly floured work surface into 4-5 cm thick sticks, wrap in foil and chill for about 30 minutes.
-
2.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Remove the foil from the dough, cut the sticks with a very sharp knife into 1 cm thin slices and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for about 12 minutes until golden yellow.

3.
Lift the cookies onto a cooling rack. Whisk powdered sugar with a little water and red food coloring to a thick cream. Turn a piece of parchment or baking paper into a small funnel, leaving a tiny hole at the tip. Pour the red icing in and decorate the Vanilla Taler with zig‑zag lines. Place one silver sugar pearl on each and let the icing dry well.
