Tomato Soup with African Relish (Chakalaka)

Ingredients
- 2.5 cm fresh ginger
- 1 Garlic clove
- 1 onion
- olive oil
- 1 red chopped chili pepper
- 2 tbsp Curry Powder
- 400 g baked beans (in tomato sauce, canned)
- 1 Shallot
- 500 g tomatoes
- 1 red chili pepper
- 1 Green Chili Pepper
- 300 ml crushed tomatoes
- 400 ml Chicken broth
- 2 tsp five-spice mix
- Salt
- Cayenne pepper

For the Chakalaka, peel and finely chop the ginger, garlic, and onion. In a pot heat 100 ml oil and sauté the ginger, garlic, onion, chili, and curry. Grate the carrots. Wash, quarter, and chop the tomatoes. Add the carrots to the pot and stir in the beans. Simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

For the soup, peel and finely chop the shallot. Wash the tomatoes, remove the stem ends, and cut into small pieces.

Wash, clean, and chop the chilies.

In a pot heat 2 tbsp oil and sauté the shallot with the chilies. Add the chopped and crushed tomatoes, pour in the broth, stir in the spices, and simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes. Season with salt and cayenne pepper and serve topped with Chakalaka.
