A classic Swiss apple tart made with fresh ingredients and a buttery crust.

Ingredients

  • 250 g flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 125 g cold butter
  • 1 egg
  • flour (for the work surface)
  • butter (for the pan)
  • 5 apples
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 150 g almond slivers

Instructions

  1. 1.

Preheat the oven to 180°C with top and bottom heat. Sprinkle flour on the work surface, mix in sugar and salt, then make a well in the center of the flour. Cut cold butter into small pieces and distribute around the well; add the egg and about 30 ml lukewarm water.

  2. 2.

Using a knife, cut all ingredients into small crumbs, then quickly knead with hands into a smooth dough, shape into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill for about 30 minutes. Roll the dough on a floured surface slightly larger than the pan. Butter the pan, place the dough inside and form a rim.

  3. 3.

Wash, peel, quarter, core, and cut apples into bite‑sized pieces. Drizzle with lemon juice and mix with sugar. Spread apple slices over the dough and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove, sprinkle almond slivers on top, and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the almonds are golden brown. Take the finished tart out of the oven, let it cool slightly, and serve warm.
