Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 2 bell peppers (yellow and red)
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • Salt
  • 700 g ground beef
  • Sambal oelek (chili paste)
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 5 tbsp ketchup
  • 8 hamburger buns

Instructions

    Peel and finely dice the onions. Halve, clean, wash, and finely dice the bell peppers. Sauté the peppers and half of the onion cubes in 1 tbsp hot oil for about 5 minutes, season with salt. Add 150 ml water and simmer for about 10 minutes.

    Combine remaining onion cubes, ground beef, ½ tsp Sambal oelek, mustard, and 1 tsp salt; knead into a mixture. With damp hands shape 8 patties. Fry each side in the remaining oil for about 4 minutes per side.

    Mix the pepper mixture with ketchup. Adjust seasoning with Sambal oelek. Slice buns, toast if desired, layer with lettuce, burgers, and sauce. Serve with French fries.
