Ingredients

  • 8 herring
  • 4 Carrots
  • 2 onions
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 1 untreated lemon
  • 0.5 l apple cider vinegar

Instructions

    Have the herring fillets removed by the fishmonger, rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

    Peel carrots, wash and cut into diagonal slices.

  3. 3.

    Peel onions and slice into thin rings.

  4. 4.

    Line a heat‑proof dish with carrots and onions, place the herring on top.

  5. 5.

    Slice lemon into thin rounds and layer between them.

  6. 6.

    Boil the vinegar. Preheat oven to 150°C.

  7. 7.

    Pour hot vinegar broth over the herring and bake for about 30 minutes.

  8. 8.

    Baste repeatedly with the liquid.

  9. 9.

    Let the herring cool in the broth and serve with the broth.
