Pickled Cherries

Ingredients

  • 500 g sweet cherries
  • 200 ml cherry juice
  • 125 g sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 allspice berries
  • 1 piece untreated orange zest
  • 5 tbsp cherry brandy

Instructions

    Wash the cherries thoroughly and pit them, keeping the cherries whole as much as possible.

    In a wide pot combine 200 ml water, cherry juice, sugar, vanilla sugar, cloves, allspice berries and orange zest; bring to a boil and simmer gently for about 5 minutes.

    Fill the hot rinsed jars with the cherries. Strain the liquid through a sieve, add the cherry brandy, pour over the cherries in the jars, seal well and let cool.
