Pasta Gratin with Apples
A comforting pasta gratin featuring fresh apples, creamy cheese sauce, and caramelized onions for a delightful twist on a classic comfort dish.
Ingredients
- 500 g Potatoes
- 200 g macaroni
- 0.2 l heavy cream
- 120 g Emmental cheese
- 120 g Gruyère cheese
- 500 g onions
- 1 Tbsp clarified butter
- Salt
- Pepper
- 800 g tart apples
- 40 g Butter
- 50 g sugar
- 0.1 l white wine

Peel the potatoes, cut them lengthwise and crosswise into strips. Bring plenty of salted water to a boil, cook potatoes and pasta for about 10 minutes, then drain in a colander.

Preheat oven to 180 °C. Fill a baking dish with the cooked potatoes and pasta, season with salt and pepper.

Mix the cream with grated Emmental and Gruyère and pour over the mixture. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Peel the onions and slice thinly. In a pan heat clarified butter and roast the onions until golden brown.

Wash the apples, quarter them, remove cores, and cut into strips with skin on. Heat butter in a pot, add the apples, sugar and wine, and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove the gratin from the oven, top with the caramelized onions, and serve with the apple compote.
