Mulled Wine Jam

Spoonsparrow’s mulled wine jam tastes exceptionally good on freshly baked bread and is also suitable for desserts and fillings.

Ingredients

  • 1 untreated orange
  • 600 ml red wine
  • 8 cloves
  • 4 star anise
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cardamom pod (pressed)
  • 400 ml light grape juice
  • 500 g gelatin sugar (2:1)

Instructions

    Wash, dry, and peel the orange with a microplane so that no white pith remains. Place the zest together with the wine and spices in a pot and bring to a boil.

    Remove from heat and let steep for 2 hours.

    Boil 4 jars with lids in sparkling water for 3 minutes and allow them to dry.

    Strain the spices and zest from the wine, then stir in the grape juice and gelatin sugar with a cooking spoon. Bring to a boil and simmer for 4 minutes while bubbling. Skim off foam with a skimmer and pour the liquid into the jars. Seal the jars and place the lids on top for 10 minutes. Turn the jam over and let it cool.
