Macaroni Casserole with Meat Sauce

Ingredients
- 500 g macaroni
- Salt
- 8 eggs
- 100 ml milk
- 100 g freshly grated Parmesan
- 50 ml heavy cream
- pepper (to taste)
- nutmeg
- 2 stems basil
- butter (for the pan)
- 1 Shallot
- 1 Garlic clove
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 500 g mixed ground meat
- 100 ml dry red wine
- 600 g diced tomatoes (canned)
- 1 tsp Dried oregano

Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F) with upper and lower heat. Cook macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.

Whisk eggs with milk, cheese, and cream; season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Wash basil, shake dry, and remove leaves. Butter a baking dish, layer macaroni, pour egg mixture over it, gently shake to distribute evenly, and bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.

Meanwhile, peel and finely chop shallot and garlic; sauté in hot oil until translucent. Add ground meat, cook until crumbly, deglaze with wine. Pour in tomatoes, season with salt, pepper, and oregano, and simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes.

Remove finished macaroni ring from oven, carefully lift out of dish, arrange on plate with chunks of meat sauce, and garnish with basil leaves before serving.
