Lebanese Salad

A fresh salad recipe featuring crisp romaine lettuce, juicy tomatoes, cucumber, onions, red bell pepper, mint, garlic, lemon juice, mild olive oil, salt, pepper, and warm pita bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 romaine lettuce head
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 onions
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 handful mint leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 lemon (juice)
  • 50 ml mild olive oil
  • Salt
  • pepper (ground)
  • 4 small pita breads

Instructions

    Wash, dry, and chop the romaine lettuce into bite‑sized pieces. Dice the tomatoes. Cut the cucumber in half lengthwise and slice crosswise. Peel the onions and cut them into thin slivers. Wash, deseed, and dice the bell pepper.

    Rinse the mint leaves, pat dry, and roughly chop. Peel the garlic cloves and crush them with a knife edge. Whisk together lemon juice, mint, garlic, and olive oil to make a dressing; season with salt and pepper.

    Just before serving, toast or bake the pita breads in the oven until lightly browned. Combine all prepared salad ingredients in a bowl, arrange on plates, tear the warm pita into pieces and scatter over the salad. Drizzle the dressing over the salad and serve immediately.
