Ingredients

  • 1 kg blackthorn cherries
  • 100 g elderberries
  • 1 Vanilla bean
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 Cloves
  • 1.5 l cherry eau de vie
  • 400 g raw sugar

    Pit the cherries, remove stems, wash and drain. Prick the fruit flesh with a fork. Pit the elderberries, wash and drain. Slice the vanilla bean lengthwise with a knife. Place blackthorn cherries with elderberries, sugar and spices in a dark glass jar and pour over the cherry eau de vie.

    Store the mixture for at least 4 weeks in a warm place. After maturation filter the liqueur through a coffee or tea filter. Bottle the liqueur in tightly sealed bottles. The liqueur keeps for at least 6 months in a dark, cool place. It tastes very good with vanilla ice cream.
