Ingredients

  • 1 old-fashioned roll
  • 4 lettuce leaves (e.g., frisée, endive)
  • 2 pickles
  • 1 onion
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 500 g mixed ground meat
  • 1 tsp medium-hot mustard
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 tsp Sweet paprika powder
  • vegetable oil (for grilling)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 Tbsp mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. 1.

Soak the roll in lukewarm water. Wash and dry the lettuce. Slice the pickles lengthwise. Peel the onion and cut into rings. Wash the tomatoes, remove stems, and slice.

  2. 2.

Mix the ground meat with mustard, egg, and squeezed-out roll crumbs; season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Shape 4 patties from the mixture and grill on a hot, oiled grill for 3-4 minutes per side. Top each patty with a slice of cheese, close the lid, and let the cheese melt briefly.

  3. 3.

Halve the buns horizontally, toast the cut sides if desired. Place one patty on each bun, add a spoonful of ketchup, then layer pickles, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Add 1 tbsp mayonnaise to each, cover with the top bun. Serve with fries.
