Grandma's August Apple Cake

Ingredients
- 1 kg small apples (August apples)
- 1 lemon
- 100 g Dried Apricots
- 500 g sour cream
- 3 eggs
- 50 g sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 100 g marzipan base
- 150 g butter
- 120 g sugar
- 100 g marzipan base
- 1 untreated lemon
- 2 packets bourbon vanilla sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 75 ml milk
- 300 g flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 50 g almond flakes
- 3 tsp powdered sugar

Peel, halve, core the apples and cut the halves fan‑shaped. Drizzle with lemon juice. Dice apricots finely. Mix sour cream, eggs, sugar, cinnamon and finely grated marzipan. Add butter, sugar, finely grated marzipan mass, grated lemon zest and vanilla sugar to a bowl. Stir together. Fold in eggs and milk one after the other. Combine flour and baking powder and fold briefly.

Spread dough on a greased and floured deep baking tray. Press apple halves into the dough and pour sour cream over them. Sprinkle almond flakes on top and bake in a preheated oven at 175 °C (or gas: level 3) for about 50 minutes. Let the cake cool on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with lightly whipped cream.
