Ingredients

  • 300 g dried dates (pitted)
  • 1 piece fresh ginger (≈2 cm)
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 200 g apples
  • 150 ml orange juice
  • 200 g brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 300 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 60 g walnut kernels

Instructions

  1. 1.

Cut the dates into small cubes. Peel and finely chop the ginger. Peel the garlic and press it through a press into a bowl. Peel and dice the onion. Peel, quarter, core, and dice the apples.

  2. 2.

Combine all ingredients with orange juice, sugar, salt, and apple cider vinegar in a pot and bring to a quick boil. Reduce heat and simmer gently for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking; add more juice if needed. Roughly chop the walnuts and stir them into the finished chutney.

  3. 3.

Serve with various soft cheese varieties.
