We love Dal! Prepare the juicy Dal à la ➸ Spoonsparrow!

Ingredients

  • 350 g red lentils (peeled)
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp ghee (or clarified butter)
  • 0.5 tsp turmeric powder
  • 0.25 tsp chili powder
  • 0.5 tsp paprika powder
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp ground coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt

Instructions

    Place the lentils in a bowl and rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, then drain on a sieve.

    Wash, deseed, and finely chop the chili pepper. Peel and dice the onion and garlic. Sauté both with the chili in hot ghee for 1–2 minutes.

    Add the spices, sauté briefly, then add the lentils. Stir in about 1 l water and the bay leaf, cover, and simmer gently over medium heat for about 40 minutes.

    Occasionally stir; if the dal thickens, add a little more water. Season with salt and serve.
