Ingredients
- 4 stale rolls (or 1 small white loaf)
- butter (for greasing the pan)
- 200 ml milk
- 1 tsp grated lemon zest
- 80 g Butter
- 350 g apples
- 50 g Raisins
- 3 eggs
- 2 tbsp liquid honey
- 50 g sugar
- 50 g almond sticks

Slice the rolls into thin pieces and arrange them in a tiled pattern in a wide, greased baking dish. Bring the milk with the lemon zest and half the butter to a boil once, then let it cool slightly.

Quarter the apples, peel, core, and cut into wedges; insert between the bread slices and add raisins as well.

Whisk the eggs with honey and sugar, fold in the cooled milk, and pour evenly over the bread layers.

Sprinkle almond sticks on top and dot the remaining butter in small flakes. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 40 minutes until golden brown. If it browns too early, cover with foil.
