Beef steaks with tomato sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 4 beef sirloin steaks (about 200 g each)
  • Salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 small jar mixed pickles
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 400 g diced tomatoes
  • 80 ml port wine
  • 1 tsp horseradish
  • sugar

Instructions

    Heat oil in a pan over high heat, season steaks with salt and pepper, and place them in the hot oil. Reduce to medium heat and cook one side for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

    Flip the steaks and cook another 2 minutes.

    (The steaks are still pink inside but not raw.) Let the steaks rest briefly.

    Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

    Coarsely chop pickles and sauté with 2 tbsp capers in a pan with hot olive oil over high heat. Add tomatoes and port wine, then simmer until reduced. Season the sauce with horseradish, a touch of sugar, salt, and pepper. Serve the steaks topped with the mixed-pickle tomato sauce.
