A versatile fruit condiment that pairs perfectly with burgers or rice dishes, this Apple Chutney by Spoonsparrow offers a delightful blend of sweet and spice.
Ingredients
- 2 kg apples
- 250 ml white wine vinegar
- 400 g raw cane sugar
- 1 tbsp cardamom seeds
- 1 red chili pepper
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 2 stalks celery
- Salt
- black pepper (freshly ground)
Instructions

Peel, quarter, core the apples and dice them into small cubes. Combine with vinegar, sugar and cardamom in a pot.

Wash, halve and finely slice the chili pepper. Peel and finely chop the garlic.

Add the sliced celery to the pot along with the garlic and chili; stir into the apples, bring to a boil and simmer for about 40 minutes until thickened.

Season with salt and pepper, then pour into prepared jars. Seal tightly and allow to cool completely before storing.
