Yeast Onion Bread

Ingredients
- 0.5 cube fresh yeast (21 g)
- 1 pinch sugar
- 500 g wheat flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 5 tbsp sunflower oil
- 2 small onions
- flour (for working)

Stir the yeast with 2 tbsp lukewarm water and the sugar. Mix the flour with the salt in a bowl. Press a well in the middle and pour the yeast mixture into it. Cover the bowl and let rise for about 15 minutes in a warm place.

Add 2 tbsp oil to the dough and gradually knead in about 220 ml lukewarm water. The dough should be soft, smooth and easy to release from the bowl. Let rise again for about 1 hour.

Meanwhile peel, quarter and finely slice the onions. Heat the remaining oil and slowly brown the onions over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.

Add the onions to the dough and knead well. Divide into six pieces and roll each into a strand about 2 cm thick on a floured surface. Twist two strands together, press the ends firmly, dust with flour, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and cover with a cloth. Let rest for another 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 200°C fan. Bake the onion sticks for about 45 minutes. Remove, transfer to a rack and let cool.
