Ingredients
- 1 kg flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 cube yeast (42 g)
- 160 g soft butter
- 1 egg
- 1 yolk
- 500 ml lukewarm milk
- flour for dusting
- 4 tbsp apricot jam
Instructions
-
1.
Mix the flour with the salt in a bowl. Add the sugar, crumbled yeast, cubed butter, egg and yolk. Gradually pour in the milk while kneading thoroughly until a smooth, elastic dough forms that lifts from the bowl edges. Adjust the amount of milk if needed. Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place for about 1.5 hours.

2.
Divide the dough into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a uniform strand on a floured surface, tapering the ends slightly. Braid the strands into a loaf and tuck the ends underneath. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rest covered for another 15 minutes.

3.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (Oven + fan). Bake the loaf for 50-60 minutes until golden brown. Brush warm with apricot jam if desired.
