Ingredients
- 500 g flour
- 30 g yeast
- 100 g sugar
- 200 ml lukewarm milk
- 100 g butter
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 lemon (unprocessed)
- melted butter (for brushing)
- 2 tbsp toasted almond kernels
Instructions
-
1.
Sift the flour into a bowl and form a well in the center. Crumble the yeast into the well, add 2 tsp sugar, and stir with some milk and flour to make a small dough; dust with flour and cover to rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.
-
2.
Place the softened butter, salt, eggs, vanilla sugar, and grated lemon zest on the rim of the bowl and knead everything into a smooth dough (hand mixer). Add enough milk so the dough is soft but not sticky.
-
3.
Cover the dough and let it rise for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
-
4.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (bake top and bottom heat) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
5.
Knead the dough again, divide into three equal pieces, shape into strands, braid them into a loaf, and let rise covered for another 15 minutes.
-
6.
Brush the loaf with melted butter, sprinkle with almonds, and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden yellow.
