Ingredients
- 1000 g white asparagus
- sugar
- Salt
- 1 tsp butter
- 2 tbsp lemon juice

Peel the asparagus well and cut off the slightly woody lower ends.

Bring water with salt, a pinch of sugar, some butter and lemon juice to a boil in an asparagus pot. Place the asparagus in; the tips should not be submerged, then simmer. Thick stalks need 20 minutes, thinner ones 14 to 17 minutes.

To test doneness, take an asparagus stalk from the water and place it on a fork. If the asparagus sticks out by one or two centimeters on both sides, it is properly cooked.
