Ingredients
- 600 g onions
- 800 g veal
- Salt
- pepper (ground)
- butter (for greasing the dish)
- 150 ml meat broth
- 2 Bay leaves
- 200 ml sour cream
- 200 g gouda cheese (1 block)
- a pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
Instructions

Peel the onions and slice them into rings.

Wash the veal, pat dry, and cut into approximately 3 cm thick slices. Season with salt and pepper. Grease a large baking dish. Arrange the veal slices in a brick-like pattern with onion rings between them. Pour in the broth, add bay leaves, and bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (fan 160 °C; gas: level 2–3) for 20–25 minutes.

Meanwhile grate the cheese. Mix the cheese with sour cream, season with a little nutmeg, and pour over the casserole. Bake for an additional 10 minutes until the top is golden brown. Remove from oven and serve warm.
