Ingredients
- 5 eggs
- 150 g sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 100 g flour
- 40 g cornstarch
- 0.5 tsp Baking powder
- 150 g strawberry jam
- small colorful chocolate chips
- powdered sugar
- licorice snail
Instructions
-
1.
Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks with 100 g of sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy. Whip the egg whites with the remaining sugar until stiff peaks form, then fold into the yolk mixture.
-
2.
Sift together flour, cornstarch, and baking powder; fold into the beaten whites using a wooden spoon. Spread the batter evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 10 minutes. Transfer the baked sponge onto a sugar‑dusted towel, remove the parchment, and carefully roll the hot dough with the towel’s help. Let it cool on a cooling rack. Slice the rolled sponge into twelve 3–4 cm thick pieces; two slices make one snail.
-
3.
Roll one slice gently, spread jam over it, and roll again to form the snail shell. The elongated body of the snail consists of an uncoated rolled sponge slice.
-
4.
Place the snail shell on the end of the body and secure with a little jam.
-
5.
For the head, coat one end of the body with jam and roll upward.
-
6.
Attach chocolate chips to the eyes using a powdered‑sugar glaze (powdered sugar mixed with a few drops of water). Stick licorice pieces as feelers. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
