Spoonsparrow’s steamed dim sum: a Chinese snack featuring a spicy shrimp filling.
Ingredients
- 200 g wheat starch
- 125 g shrimp
- 0.5 onion
- 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1 tbsp Sesame oil
- pepper (ground)
- Salt
- 6 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 tbsp Rice vinegar
Instructions

Make a smooth dough by adding about 80 ml hot water to the wheat starch in small increments; roll thin and cut circles roughly 8–10 cm across.

Finely chop the shrimp. Peel and finely dice half an onion. Mix shrimp, onion, ginger, sesame oil, pepper, and salt well.

Place the filling in the center of each dough circle, fold the edges together alternating the seam side to create a zig‑zag stitch, and seal tightly.

Steam the dim sum in a bamboo steamer for 10 minutes. Serve with a sauce made from soy sauce and rice vinegar.
