Seitan Strips with Mushrooms

Ingredients

  • 600 g seitan
  • 250 g mushrooms (champignons and shiitake)
  • 2 onions
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp soy oil
  • Salt
  • ground pepper
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 250 ml vegetable broth (vegan)
  • 200 ml plant-based cream substitute
  • 1 tsp freshly chopped thyme
  • 1 tsp paprika powder

Instructions

    Slice the seitan into strips. Clean the mushrooms and leave whole or cut them according to size.

    Peel and finely dice the onions. Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves.

    Brown the seitan in a hot pan with oil. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan. Brown the mushrooms in the same pan, season, and also remove them.

    Sauté the onions until translucent, sprinkle with flour, and deglaze with broth. Stir in the cream substitute and let it simmer gently for about 10 minutes to thicken slightly.

    Combine the seitan, mushrooms, and thyme; sprinkle with paprika powder and allow to cook together for about 5 minutes. Taste before serving and serve with white bread if desired.
