Ingredients

  • 150 g onions
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 50 g pork lard
  • 1 kg sauerkraut
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 6 juniper berries
  • 2 cloves
  • 150 g white wine
  • 250 ml meat broth
  • pepper (ground)
  • 1 pinch sugar

Instructions

    Peel the onions and garlic. Halve the onions and slice finely. Dice the garlic.

    Heat the lard in a suitably large pot and lightly brown the onions and garlic. Add the sauerkraut and sauté for 5 minutes, turning several times and loosening with a fork.

    Add bay leaves, slightly crushed juniper berries, and cloves to the pot, pour in wine and broth. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 20 to 25 minutes.
