Ingredients

  • 1 tsp soft butter (for the dish)
  • 1 kg mostly waxy potatoes
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 300 ml whipping cream
  • Salt
  • pepper (ground)
  • nutmeg
  • 100 g cheese (e.g., Gouda, Edamer)

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 180°C (fan 160°C; gas: stage 2-3). Grease baking dish with butter if needed.

    Wash potatoes, dry, peel and cut into thin long slices. Layer in dish. Peel garlic and press into cream. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg, then pour over potatoes.

    Grate cheese and sprinkle on top. Bake in preheated oven for about 1 hour.

    Serve garnished with fresh chervil if desired, accompanied by a small bowl of sea salt with pink peppercorns.
