Ingredients

  • 1 small onion
  • 1 tsp Olive oil
  • 250 g peeled tomatoes (canned)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 80 g mixed nuts
  • 80 g breadcrumbs

  • 4 eggs (medium size)
  • 5 tbsp flour
  • 400 g sheep cheese
  • oil for frying

Instructions

    For the tomato sauce, peel and finely dice the onion. Heat olive oil and sauté until translucent.

    Dice the tomatoes, add them with their liquid to the onions, and cook briefly. Season with salt and pepper and let cool.

    Coarsely chop the nuts and mix with breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and cumin. Beat the eggs. Place flour on a plate. Cut the sheep cheese in half.

    First coat each cheese piece in flour, then dip in egg, and finally roll in the nut mixture. Repeat this process twice for each piece so that every slice is thrice coated. Press the coating lightly with hands.

    Heat oil in a pot or fryer to 170°C. Fry the cheese pieces individually until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on kitchen paper. Serve together with the tomato sauce.
