Ingredients

  • 5 matjes fillets
  • 0.25 cucumber (about 150 g)
  • 1 Red Onion
  • 1 small tart apple
  • 2 pickles
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 200 g whole grain bread (sliced)
  • 50 g butter
  • lettuce leaves (e.g., Lollo Rosso)
  • 50 g crème fraîche
  • dill

Instructions

    Drain the matjes and cut into very small (5 mm) cubes. Peel the cucumber, onion, and apple. Halve the cucumber and apple, remove seeds, and dice them with the onions into 5 mm cubes.

    Drain the pickles, finely chop, and mix with the matjes, mustard, and parsley. Cut the bread slices into about 5 cm pieces and butter them.

    Wash, dry, and tear the lettuce leaves; spread them on the bread slices. Place a small dollop of matjes tartar in the center of each slice and garnish with crème fraîche and dill before serving.
