Marinated Herring

Matjes fillets are marinated in a fresh sauce made from sour cream, paprika, parsley, mustard and sugar, finished with lemon juice, salt and pepper. Serve with boiled potatoes for a classic Scandinavian dish. Spoonsparrow.

Ingredients

  • 500 g herring fillets
  • 250 g sour cream
  • 0.5 tsp sweet paprika powder
  • 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp sharp mustard
  • 1 tsp sugar (more to taste)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • Salt
  • ground pepper

Instructions

    Pat the herring fillets dry and cut into strips.

    Whisk the sour cream with paprika, parsley, mustard and sugar. Season with lemon juice, salt and pepper.

    Fold the herring strips into the sauce and cover or transfer to a glass; refrigerate for about 1 hour.

    Serve chilled with boiled potatoes.
