Ingredients

  • 1 small onion
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 stalk Celery
  • 120 g pickles
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch cloves powder
  • 80 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 120 g brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 hot dog buns (e.g., with sesame seeds)
  • 4 red frankfurters
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 Red Onion
  • 35 g green olives (jarred)

Instructions

  1. 1.

For the relish, peel and grate the onion. Wash, deseed, and finely dice the chili pepper. Peel the cucumber, halve it lengthwise, remove the seeds, and grate. Wash the celery, strip the fibers, and finely dice very small. Dice the pickles into small cubes. Wash, clean, and cut the olives into small cubes. Finely chop the onion. Combine all ingredients with ginger, mustard seeds, and cloves in a pot, bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently so nothing burns. Then add the vinegar and continue cooking until the relish thickens to a jam-like consistency, stirring occasionally. Finally stir in the sugar, season with salt and pepper, bring to a boil again, and let the mixture cool.

  2. 2.

Toast the buns. Grill the frankfurters in a hot oil skillet (or on a grill) for about 5 minutes, turning them. While they cook, wash the tomatoes, cut off the stem ends, and slice into rounds. Peel the red onion and dice finely. Drain the olives and slice them. Cut the buns lengthwise but do not split them completely. Then spread some relish, add the frankfurters, onions, tomatoes, and olives on top of each bun and serve immediately.
