Ground Beef Casserole with Potato Crown

Ingredients
- 2 onions
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 30 ml olive oil
- 0.5 tsp sage
- 0.5 tsp thyme
- 500 g ground beef
- 2 red apples
- 2 carrots
- 700 g waxy potatoes
- 25 g butter
- 150 ml meat broth (from the jar)
- 130 g shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt
- Pepper

Peel onions and garlic, slice onions into rounds. Sauté onions in olive oil, squeeze in garlic, then add thyme, sage, and ground beef. Brown everything together. Peel carrots, wash, finely chop. Wash apples, halve them, remove core cavities. Chop one apple finely, cut the second into slices. Add all to the beef mixture and season well. Peel potatoes, slice thinly, blanch in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Drain and let dry. Heat butter in a pan and gently steam potato slices until tender. Grease a 1.5‑liter baking dish. Layer alternating sheets of beef mixture and potatoes, finishing with potatoes on top. Drizzle meat broth over the layers and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Bake at 200 °C for 40 minutes until golden brown.
