Grilled Sausages with Onion Sauce and Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 800 g starchy potatoes
  • Salt
  • 100 ml milk
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • 40 g soft butter
  • nutmeg
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 200 ml ale (or dark beer)
  • 200 ml meat broth
  • Salt
  • ground caraway
  • ground pepper from mill
  • 8 sausages
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

    For the mashed potatoes, wash, peel and boil the potatoes in salted water for about 30 minutes.

    For the onion sauce, peel, halve and slice the onions into thin strips. In hot butter, stir slowly for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Add flour briefly, then pour in beer and broth. Simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened and season with salt, caraway and pepper.

    Brown the sausages in hot oil in a pan for about 5 minutes on all sides.

    Drain the water and press the hot potatoes through a masher. Heat milk, cream and butter together in a pot. Gradually stir into the potato mash with a wooden spoon. Season the mash with salt.

    Plate the sausages with mashed potatoes, pour the sauce over them and serve.
