A refreshing ginger drink from Jamaica, alcohol-free: the "ginger beer" delivers vitamin C. It supports connective tissue and the immune system.

Ingredients

  • 125 g ginger (1 piece)
  • 100 g cane sugar
  • 2 limes (including 1 organic)
  • 2 oranges (including 1 organic)
  • liquid sweetener (optional)
  • cold mineral water (optional)
  • 4 sprigs Mint
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. 1.

Peel the ginger and grate it finely.

  2. 2.

Bring 1.25 liters of water and sugar to a boil, add the grated ginger and simmer for 1 minute. Wash, dry, and thinly peel the organic lime and orange with a vegetable peeler.

  3. 3.

Pour the hot liquid over the citrus peels in a pitcher and let cool at room temperature.

  4. 4.

Halve all fruits and squeeze out the juice. Pour the citrus juice into the pitcher. Cover the ginger beer with a kitchen towel and let it steep in a dark, cool place or in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

  5. 5.

The next day strain the ginger beer through a fine sieve, sweeten to taste if desired. Add ice cubes, top up with mineral water as needed. Wash the mint, shake dry, and pluck off the leaves. Serve the ginger beer garnished with lime and orange slices and a sprig of mint.
