English Cake with Orange (Angel Food Cake)

Ingredients

  • 90 g butter
  • 90 g sugar
  • 4 eggs (separated)
  • Salt
  • 180 g flour
  • 0.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 80 ml orange juice
  • 225 g sugar
  • 250 g flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • vanilla aroma
  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Orange juice
  • 4 orange slices

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) with top and bottom heat.

    For the yellow batter, cream the butter with sugar and gradually fold in the yolks with a pinch of salt. Mix flour with baking powder and alternately stir into the butter mixture with orange juice.

    For the white batter, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form, then gradually add sugar until glossy and peaks hold. Sift flour with baking powder over the mixture, fold in gently, then mix in vanilla aroma.

    First pour the white batter into a greased pan, then carefully spoon the yellow batter on top. Smooth the surface and bake for about 30 minutes in the preheated oven.

    Remove the finished cake from the oven, let it cool, release from the pan, and allow to fully chill.

    For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with orange juice and pour over the cake. Arrange orange slices in a centered brick pattern on top and let the cake dry slightly before cutting into pieces.
