Citrus Fruits in Spiced Syrup
Citrus fruits in spiced syrup: a healthy and figure-friendly snack – low calories, rich aroma, and plenty of useful nutrients.
Ingredients
- 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1 tsp brown sugar (or vanilla sugar)
- 4 cardamom pods
- 2 star anise
- 2 cloves of spice cloves
- 1 stick cinnamon (about 2 cm)
- 300 g pink grapefruit (1 pink grapefruit)
- 300 g oranges (2 oranges)
- 160 g clementines (4 clementines)
- 1 sprig mint
Instructions
-
1.
Halve the lemon, squeeze out the juice and combine it with 200 ml water, maple syrup, and sugar in a small pot.
-
2.
Lightly crush the cardamom pods with a knife. Add them along with star anise, spice cloves, and cinnamon stick to the pot.
-
3.
Bring everything to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally over medium heat.
-
4.
Meanwhile, peel the grapefruit and oranges so that all the white pith is removed. Cut the fruit segments between the separating membranes, catching the juice in a bowl.
-
5.
Add the fruit segments to the collected juice. Peel the clementines and carefully scrape off the white skin with a knife. Slice the clementines into wedges and fold them into the other fruit segments.
-
6.
Let the spiced syrup cool slightly, strain it through a fine sieve over the fruits, and let it infuse for at least 10 minutes.
-
7.
Wash the mint, shake dry, and pluck the leaves. Sprinkle over the fruits and serve.
