Cinnamon Hearts

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground almonds
  • 5 egg whites
  • 450 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 20 ml kirsch
  • sugar (for work surface)

Instructions

    Beat egg whites until stiff, fold in powdered sugar.

  2. 2.

    Set aside 1 cup of the meringue for glazing.

  3. 3.

    Add almonds, cinnamon and kirsch to the remaining meringue, quickly knead, cover dough and refrigerate for about 1 hour.

    Dust a work surface with sugar, roll dough to ~4 mm thickness, cut out hearts, coat evenly with glaze, place on parchment-lined tray and let dry overnight at room temperature.

  5. 5.

    Bake cinnamon stars in preheated oven at 160°C for about 8 minutes; they should remain soft inside and keep a white exterior.
