The chocolate cookies with festive spices from Spoonsparrow are a delight for all spice and cocoa lovers.

Ingredients

  • 300 g spelt flour type 1050
  • 100 g dark cane sugar
  • 1 pinch ground clove
  • 1 pinch ground allspice
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (strongly defatted)
  • 1 egg
  • 200 g butter
  • 20 g powdered sugar (from raw cane sugar)

Instructions

  1. 1.

Mix the spelt flour with the cane sugar, spices and cocoa powder in a bowl; press a well into the center, add the egg, and distribute the butter pieces around the well. Then knead with a hand mixer’s dough hooks until a smooth dough forms. Shape into a ball, wrap in cling film, and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2.

Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to about 5 mm thickness and cut star shapes with a cookie cutter. Place them on parchment‑lined baking trays and bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (fan 160 °C; gas: level 2–3) for 10–12 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven, let them cool on a wire rack, and dust with powdered sugar.
